Snowmobile Owen Sound to Explore Grey Bruce Region of Ontario…
If you’re looking for some stellar riding for your Ontario snowmobile tour or snowmobile vacation, why not snowmobile Owen Sound? The City of Owen Sound is the major population centre for the region popularly known as “The Grey Bruce” in the northern corner of what’s broadly referred to as Southwestern Ontario. The Grey Bruce is also part of OFSC District 9 and includes Grey County and Bruce County to make for one great Ontario snowmobile tour destination for your sledding getaway. Meanwhile, if you’re interested in other Ontario snowmobile tour destinations, check out the rest of my Ontario ride articles.
We did three day rides out of Owen Sound’s Best Western Inn On The Bay for a Snow Goer Canada story that will appear in the snowmobile magazine next fall, but here’s are some highlight teasers with all the key links in case you want to go snowmobiling in Grey Bruce this winter for your Ontario snowmobile tour…
Snowmobile Owen Sound from Best Western Inn On The Bay
First, let me say that the Best Western Inn On The Bay offers snowmobilers an exceptional home away from home. Hotel manager Jason Hemstock is an avid sledder himself and his hotel goes out of its way as a welcoming host for visiting riders. There’s lots of free parking for trucks and trailers, plus camera monitored sled parking. A connector trail to TOP B110 starts at the back of the Best Western Inn On The Bay parking lot. The hotel rooms are large and comfortable with their own fridges while the hot tub and sauna ease those tired muscles at day’s end. Breakfast is included in the hotel’s on site restaurant, Bishop’s Landing, which also serves some of the most scrumptious dinners our crew has ever had the pleasure of consuming. So full marks to the Best Western Inn On The Bay as a top notch staging hotel.
Snowmobile Owen Sound Loops
On each of three days, we rode a new loop…one north to Lion’s Head, two east and south to Durham, and three west and south to Harriston. Each was a different riding experience, but all shared the commonality of well-groomed trails. In fact, by the end of day three, my Snow Goer Crew were commenting that these Grey Bruce trails were as good as any they’d ever snowmobiled on, and that’s really saying something, coming from avid sledders who been just about everywhere!
So if you’re looking the get away for a close-to-home long weekend or a no hassle sledding getaway this winter for your Ontario snowmobile tour, make Grey Bruce your first choice – you won’t be disappointed. Special thanks to the clubs of District 9 for the smooth trails and for developing new snow tours – Bruce Peninsula Tour, Walter’s Fall Tour, Saugeen River Tour and Queen’s Bush Tour that can be easily done out of Owen Sound!
